If your TV has recently stopped turning on, try these simple fixes before booking an engineer as it could be very costly for what is otherwise a pretty easy fix.
Try switching it on at the box or mains
If your TV won’t turn on with the remote control, then perhaps you need to replace the devices batteries, or potentially there is interference blocking the remote control’s infrared signal. To find out if this is the case, use the buttons on the side or front panel of the TV cover and attempt to turn on the television.
Check the power
Make sure that the TV is connected to a live power outlet and that it is securely plugged in. The problem might relate to your plug socket rather than the TV – to find out if this is the case, plug another electrical appliance into the TV’s plug, or connect the TV to a different outlet.
Ensure the fuses haven’t tripped
If the power does not work, check to see if your fuse box has tripped. Otherwise, you will need to get a professional to fix the outlet. If your TV immediately trips the power, then you will need to get it repaired.
Ensure the fuse in any extension lead hasn’t blown
Your TV may be connected to an extension lead, and the fuse or surge protector in this lead may have blown. To see if this is the case, connect the TV directly to the wall.
